{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-40-2-301","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 40-2-301","heading":"Commission and office responsibilities.","body":"(1) The commissioner shall:\n(a) direct the state's efforts to promote coal mine safety; and\n(b) participate with the Mine Safety and Health Administration in an investigation of a major coal mine accident in Utah.\n(2) The commission shall establish by rule, made in accordance with Title 63G, Chapter 3, Utah Administrative Rulemaking Act:\n(a) a system consistent with Section 40-2-302 to receive, evaluate, and act on a report of an alleged unsafe condition at a coal mine; and\n(b) requirements for a coal mine operator regarding notification of a coal mine accident as part of a coal mine operator's emergency response plan.\n(3) The office may:\n(a) conduct one or more studies to promote coal mine safety;\n(b) cooperate with educational and other organizations to promote mining engineering and mine safety training;\n(c) establish a cooperative relationship with the Mine Safety and Health Administration to promote coal mine safety in Utah;\n(d) serve as the lead state agency in developing and implementing state and local response and communication plans for major coal mine accidents in Utah; and\n(e) implement the notification requirements established under Subsection (2)(b).","path":["Title 40 Mines and Mining","Chapter 40-2 Coal Mine Safety Act","Part 40-2-3 Safety Conditions"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title40/Chapter2/40-2-S301.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"f6075569b70d3d39d2e06c13d1da8f209bf2326a7b8ebde74dfc03027290b1e3","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-40-2-205","next":"us-ut/utah-code-40-2-302"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
