{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-41-1a-1010","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 41-1a-1010","heading":"Permit required to dismantle vehicle -- Duties upon receiving the permit -- Exceptions.","body":"(1)\n(a) A person may not scrap, dismantle, destroy, or otherwise change any vehicle so that it loses its character, until the person submits to the division:\n(i) the certificate of title for the vehicle for cancellation; and\n(ii) an application for a permit to dismantle the vehicle.\n(b) Upon approval of the application, the division shall issue a permit to dismantle the vehicle.\n(2) Except as provided in Subsection (3), if a permit to dismantle is issued under this section, the vehicle shall be destroyed and may not be rebuilt or reconstructed and may not be retitled or registered.\n(3) A vehicle for which a permit to dismantle has been issued by the division may be retitled and the permit to dismantle rescinded if:\n(a) prior to receiving a dismantling permit the vehicle had a Utah certificate of title;\n(b) the vehicle has not been dismantled;\n(c) an investigator for the Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division of the commission determines after a physical inspection of the vehicle that it is the same vehicle for which the permit to dismantle was issued; and\n(d) the applicant pays the fee under Subsection (4).\n(4) The commission may collect a fee established in accordance with Section 63J-1-504 to cover the expenses of an inspection under Subsection (3).","path":["Title 41 Motor Vehicles","Chapter 41-1a Motor Vehicle Act","Part 41-1a-10 Salvage Vehicles - Junk and Dismantled Vehicles"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title41/Chapter1a/41-1a-S1010.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"2cc381c8ff4310fb8e80fd556b4e492a3d15b072e2374bb338916fb68556574c","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-41-1a-1009","next":"us-ut/utah-code-41-1a-1011"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
