{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-41-1a-226","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 41-1a-226","heading":"Vintage vehicle -- Signed statement -- Restored-modified vehicle -- Registration.","body":"(1) The owner of a vintage vehicle who applies for registration under this part shall provide a signed statement that the vintage vehicle:\n(a) is owned and operated for the purposes described in Section 41-21-1; and\n(b) is safe to operate on the highways of this state as described in Section 41-21-4.\n(2) For a vintage vehicle with a model year of 1982 or older, the signed statement described in Subsection (1) and in Subsection 41-6a-1642(15) is in lieu of an emissions inspection, from which a vintage vehicle is exempt under Subsection 41-6a-1642(4).\n(3) Before registration of a vintage vehicle that has a model year of 1983 or newer, an owner shall:\n(a) obtain a certificate of emissions inspection as provided in Section 41-6a-1642; or\n(b) provide proof of vehicle insurance coverage for the vintage vehicle that is a type specific to a vehicle collector.\n(4)\n(a) If an owner of a restored-modified vehicle who applies for registration that wishes to have the notation on the registration certificate as described in Subsection (4)(b), the owner may provide a signed statement that the vehicle:\n(i) meets the definition of a restored-modified vehicle, and has modern technology, including emission control technology and an on-board diagnostic system; and\n(ii) is safe to operate on the highways of this state.\n(b) If a vehicle qualifies as a restored-modified vehicle, the division shall notate the registration certificate indicating that the vehicle is a restored-modified vehicle.\n(c) An owner of a restored-modified vehicle may elect to remove the restored-modified notation on the registration certificate at the time of a subsequent registration.","path":["Title 41 Motor Vehicles","Chapter 41-1a Motor Vehicle Act","Part 41-1a-2 Registration"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title41/Chapter1a/41-1a-S226.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"b3f67b7e54025d7e1460d432b947b4a119cbcb19eafd624ee277d2b409eb85ca","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-41-1a-225","next":"us-ut/utah-code-41-1a-228"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
