{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-1007","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 41-6a-1007","heading":"Operators to yield right-of-way to blind pedestrian -- Duties of blind pedestrian -- Use of cane -- Failure to yield -- Liability.","body":"(1)\n(a) The operator of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a blind or visually impaired pedestrian:\n(i) carrying a clearly visible white cane; or\n(ii) accompanied by a guide dog specially trained for that purpose and equipped with a harness.\n(b)\n(i) Except as provided in Subsection (1)(b)(ii), a person who fails to yield the right-of-way is liable for any loss or damage which results as a proximate cause of the failure to yield the right-of-way to blind or visually impaired persons.\n(ii) Blind or visually impaired persons shall:\n(A) exercise due care in approaching and crossing roadways; and\n(B) yield the right-of-way to authorized emergency vehicles giving an audible warning signal.\n(2) A pedestrian other than a blind or visually impaired person may not carry a cane as described in Subsection (1).","path":["Title 41 Motor Vehicles","Chapter 41-6a Traffic Code","Part 41-6a-10 Pedestrians' Rights and Duties"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title41/Chapter6a/41-6a-S1007.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"1fa46660c9939a43758ea283a376fccc9a2a8e46e53552d7b02bad7cba91de03","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-1006","next":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-1008"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
