{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-1106","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 41-6a-1106","heading":"Bicycles and human powered vehicle or device to yield right-of-way to pedestrians on sidewalks, paths, or trails -- Uses prohibited -- Negligent collision prohibited -- Speed restrictions -- Rights and duties same as pedestrians.","body":"(1) A person operating a bicycle or a vehicle or device propelled by human power shall:\n(a) yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian; and\n(b) give an audible signal before overtaking and passing a pedestrian.\n(2) A person 18 years of age or older may not operate a bicycle or a vehicle or device propelled by human power on a sidewalk, path, or trail, or across a roadway in a crosswalk, where prohibited by a traffic-control device or ordinance.\n(3) A person may not operate a bicycle or a vehicle or device propelled by human power in a negligent manner so as to collide with a:\n(a) pedestrian; or\n(b) person operating a:\n(i) bicycle; or\n(ii) vehicle or device propelled by human power.\n(4) A person operating a bicycle or a vehicle or device propelled by human power on a sidewalk, path, or trail, or across a driveway, or across a roadway on a crosswalk may not operate at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the existing conditions, giving regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing.\n(5) Except as provided under Subsections (1) and (4), a person operating a bicycle or a vehicle or device propelled by human power on a sidewalk, path, or trail, or across a roadway on a crosswalk, has all the rights and duties applicable to a pedestrian under the same circumstances.","path":["Title 41 Motor Vehicles","Chapter 41-6a Traffic Code","Part 41-6a-11 Bicycles and Other Vehicles, Regulation of Operation"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title41/Chapter6a/41-6a-S1106.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"c2015e12f1bcf0b2de53dad3249d9f5bb1600a7a684ad8b8a53552ee0c935969","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-1105","next":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-1107"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
