{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-1122","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 41-6a-1122","heading":"Self-balancing electric skateboards.","body":"(1) Except as otherwise provided in this section, a self-balancing electric skateboard is subject to the provisions under this chapter for a bicycle.\n(2) For a person operating a self-balancing electric skateboard, the following provisions do not apply:\n(a) any reference to seating positions and handle bar usage, including under Sections 41-6a-1112 and 41-6a-1501;\n(b) required lights, horns, and mirrors under Section 41-6a-1506; and\n(c) driver licensing requirements under Section 53-3-202.\n(3) A person may operate a self-balancing electric skateboard across a roadway in a crosswalk, except that the person may not operate the self-balancing electric skateboard in a negligent manner in the crosswalk:\n(a) so as to collide with a:\n(i) pedestrian; or\n(ii) person operating a bicycle, vehicle, or device propelled by human power; or\n(b) at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the existing conditions, giving regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing.","path":["Title 41 Motor Vehicles","Chapter 41-6a Traffic Code","Part 41-6a-11 Bicycles and Other Vehicles, Regulation of Operation"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title41/Chapter6a/41-6a-S1122.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"b6f27f99808ab0731d3170feb74e0e08d2ffb252314742b5ca48a4ddd256385a","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-1121","next":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-1201"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
