{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-1401","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 41-6a-1401","heading":"Standing or parking vehicles -- Restrictions and exceptions.","body":"(1) Except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic, or in compliance with law, the directions of a peace officer, or a traffic-control device, a person may not:\n(a) stop, stand, or park a vehicle:\n(i) on the roadway side of any vehicle stopped or parked at the edge or curb of a street;\n(ii) on a sidewalk;\n(iii) within an intersection;\n(iv) on a crosswalk;\n(v) between a safety zone and the adjacent curb or within 30 feet of points on the curb immediately opposite the ends of a safety zone, unless a different length is indicated by signs or markings;\n(vi) alongside or opposite any street excavation or obstruction when stopping, standing, or parking would obstruct traffic;\n(vii) on any bridge or other elevated structure, on a highway, or within a highway tunnel;\n(viii) on any railroad tracks;\n(ix) on any controlled-access highway;\n(x) in the area between roadways of a divided highway, including crossovers;\n(xi) any place where a traffic-control device prohibits stopping, standing, or parking; or\n(xii) within a bicycle lane;\n(b) stand or park a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except momentarily to pick up or discharge a passenger or passengers:\n(i) in front of a public or private driveway;\n(ii) within 15 feet of a fire hydrant;\n(iii) within 20 feet of a crosswalk;\n(iv) within 30 feet upon the approach to any flashing signal, stop sign, yield sign, or traffic-control signal located at the side of a roadway;\n(v) within 20 feet of the driveway entrance to any fire station and on the side of a street opposite the entrance to any fire station within 75 feet of the entrance when properly signposted;\n(vi) at any place where a traffic-control device prohibits standing; or\n(vii) at capitol hill, as defined in Section 63O-1-101, in a parking space identified as reserved for specific users, without:\n(A) approval by the executive director of the State Capitol Preservation Board created in Section 63O-2-201; and\n(B) a properly displayed placard or other identifying marker approved by the executive director of the State Capitol Preservation Board to indicate this approval; or\n(c) park a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading property or passengers:\n(i) within 50 feet of the nearest rail of a railroad crossing; or\n(ii) at any place where traffic-control devices prohibit parking.\n(2) A person may not move a vehicle that is not lawfully under the person's control into any prohibited area or into an unlawful distance from the curb.\n(3) This section does not apply to a tow truck motor carrier responding to a customer service call if the tow truck motor carrier has already received authorization from the local law enforcement agency in the jurisdiction where the vehicle to be towed is located.","path":["Title 41 Motor Vehicles","Chapter 41-6a Traffic Code","Part 41-6a-14 Stopping, Standing, and Parking"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title41/Chapter6a/41-6a-S1401.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"2cb79d7e0b722f33c8dfb1fab737c3bc56e45ced8f4167e96d5d9b2c6c38de9f","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-1310","next":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-1402"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
