{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-1405","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 41-6a-1405","heading":"Peace officer authorized to move vehicle.","body":"(1) If a peace officer finds a vehicle in violation of Section 41-6a-1404, the officer may move the vehicle, cause the vehicle to be moved, or require the operator or other person responsible for the vehicle to move the vehicle to a safe position off the highway.\n(2) A peace officer may remove or cause to be removed to a place of safety an unattended vehicle left standing on a highway in:\n(a) violation of this part; or\n(b) a position or under circumstances that the vehicle obstructs the normal movement of traffic.\n(3) In accordance with Section 41-6a-1406, a peace officer may remove or cause to be removed to the nearest garage or other place of safety a vehicle found on a highway when:\n(a) the vehicle has been reported stolen or taken without the consent of its owner;\n(b) the person responsible for the vehicle is unable to provide for its custody or removal; or\n(c) the person operating the vehicle is arrested for an alleged offense for which the peace officer is required by law to take the person arrested before a proper magistrate without unnecessary delay.","path":["Title 41 Motor Vehicles","Chapter 41-6a Traffic Code","Part 41-6a-14 Stopping, Standing, and Parking"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title41/Chapter6a/41-6a-S1405.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"bc49e68a6bfb19089db46afabc52fdfdf5fab70c92d050e84804895860e7a49b","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-1404","next":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-1406"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
