{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-1501","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 41-6a-1501","heading":"Motorcycle-- Place for operator to ride -- Passengers.","body":"(1) An individual operating a motorcycle shall ride only on the permanent and regular seat attached to the motorcycle.\n(2)\n(a) Except as provided in Subsection (2)(b):\n(i) an individual operating a motorcycle may not carry any other individual on the motorcycle; and\n(ii) a passenger may not ride on a motorcycle.\n(b) If a motorcycle is designed to carry more than one individual, a passenger may ride on:\n(i) the permanent and regular seat, if designed for two individuals; or\n(ii) another seat firmly attached to the motorcycle at the rear or side of the operator.\n(3) An individual shall ride on a motorcycle only while sitting astride the seat, facing forward, with one leg on either side of the motorcycle.\n(4) An individual may not operate a motorcycle while carrying a package, bundle, or other article that prevents the operator from keeping both hands on the handlebars.\n(5) An operator of a motorcycle may not carry an individual and an individual may not ride in a position that interferes with:\n(a) the operation or control of the motorcycle; or\n(b) the view of the operator.\n(6) A violation of this section is an infraction.","path":["Title 41 Motor Vehicles","Chapter 41-6a Traffic Code","Part 41-6a-15 Special Vehicles"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title41/Chapter6a/41-6a-S1501.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"cd04f9db406243d853581fa5b30c68dfdfeb7f228096e79e2d7040d5a129414b","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-1409","next":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-1502"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
