{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-309","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 41-6a-309","heading":"Prohibition of unauthorized signs, signals, lights, or markings -- Commercial advertising -- Public nuisance -- Removal.","body":"(1) Except as provided in Section 41-6a-310, a person may not place, maintain, or display upon or in view of any highway any unauthorized sign, signal, light, marking, or device which:\n(a) purports to be or which resembles a traffic-control device or railroad sign or signal, or authorized emergency vehicle flashing light;\n(b) attempts to direct the movement of traffic;\n(c) hides from view or interferes with the effectiveness of a traffic-control device or any railroad sign or signal; or\n(d) blinds or dazzles an operator on any adjacent highway.\n(2) Except as provided under Section 72-7-504 regarding logo advertising, a person may not place or maintain any commercial advertising on any traffic-control device.\n(3) The provisions of Subsections (1) and (2) do not prohibit a sign on private property adjacent to a highway providing directional information in a manner that may not be mistaken for a traffic-control device.\n(4) Every prohibited sign, signal, or light, or marking is a public nuisance and the highway authority having jurisdiction over the highway may remove it or cause it to be removed without notice.\n(5) A violation of this section is an infraction.","path":["Title 41 Motor Vehicles","Chapter 41-6a Traffic Code","Part 41-6a-3 Traffic-Control Devices"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title41/Chapter6a/41-6a-S309.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"ac6765b328c6d3fc147a6850dabd379b0ac70c190f8a5b108cbbd22cce70cd30","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-308","next":"us-ut/utah-code-41-6a-310"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
