{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-49-16-203","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 49-16-203","heading":"Exemption of certain employees from coverage -- Exception.","body":"(1) A firefighter service employee serving as the chief of any fire department or district is excluded from coverage under this system if that firefighter service employee files a formal written request seeking exemption.\n(2) The chief of any fire department or district who retires from that position shall comply with the provisions of Section 49-11-504 and Chapter 11, Part 12, Postretirement Reemployment Restrictions Act, upon reemployment by the participating employer.\n(3) An employee's exclusion, exemption, participation, or election described in this section:\n(a) shall be made in accordance with this section; and\n(b) is subject to requirements under federal law and rules made by the board.","path":["Title 49 Utah State Retirement and Insurance Benefit Act","Chapter 49-16 Firefighters' Retirement Act","Part 49-16-2 Membership Eligibility"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title49/Chapter16/49-16-S203.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"6940e4ea5bcc7018d8361978b55c07d5638ffbcf53caaa19ebd81bd667d4f864","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-49-16-202","next":"us-ut/utah-code-49-16-301"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
