{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-49-16-402","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 49-16-402","heading":"Calculation of retirement allowance.","body":"(1) A retiree under this system shall receive an allowance equal to:\n(a) 2.5% of final average monthly salary multiplied by the number of years of service credit, limited to 20 years; plus\n(b) 2% of final average monthly salary, multiplied by the number of years of service credit in excess of 20 years.\n(2) The minimum allowance payable under this section is $500.\n(3)\n(a) Except as modified by cost-of-living adjustments and except as provided under Subsection (3)(b), an allowance under this system may not exceed 70% of a firefighter service employee's final average monthly salary.\n(b) The allowance limitation under Subsection (3)(a) does not apply to a member who initially retires on or after July 1, 2010.","path":["Title 49 Utah State Retirement and Insurance Benefit Act","Chapter 49-16 Firefighters' Retirement Act","Part 49-16-4 Defined Benefit"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title49/Chapter16/49-16-S402.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"cd8086fe4287cefdad03e980e1ff5e346294200d3c6f7f0c62f5c1831aef56b0","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-49-16-401","next":"us-ut/utah-code-49-16-403"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
