{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-53-10-906","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 53-10-906","heading":"Victim notification of rights -- Notification of law enforcement.","body":"(1) Collecting facility personnel who conduct sexual assault examinations shall inform each victim of a sexual assault of:\n(a) available services for treatment of sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy, and other medical and psychiatric conditions;\n(b) available crisis intervention or other mental health services provided;\n(c) the option to receive prophylactic medication to prevent sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy;\n(d) the right to determine:\n(i) whether to provide a personal statement about the sexual assault to law enforcement; and\n(ii) if law enforcement should have access to any paperwork from the forensic examination; and\n(e) the victim's rights as provided in Section 77-37-3.\n(2) The collecting facility shall notify law enforcement as soon as practicable if the victim of a sexual assault decides to interview and discuss the assault with law enforcement.\n(3) If a victim of a sexual assault declines to provide a personal statement about the sexual assault to law enforcement, the collecting facility shall provide a written notice to the victim that contains the following information:\n(a) where the sexual assault kit will be stored;\n(b) notice that the victim may choose to contact law enforcement any time after declining to provide a personal statement;\n(c) the name, phone number, and email address of the law enforcement agency having jurisdiction; and\n(d) the name and phone number of a local rape crisis and services center.","path":["Title 53 Public Safety Code","Chapter 53-10 Criminal Investigations and Technical Services Act","Part 53-10-9 Sexual Assault Kit Processing Act"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title53/Chapter10/53-10-S906.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"d6b976ab32c64fabef553f55563a57c4933aa6fc0619354c552fb6c23b50bf81","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-53-10-905","next":"us-ut/utah-code-53-10-907"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
