{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-53-13-116","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 53-13-116","heading":"Report required after pointing a firearm at an individual.","body":"(1) As used in this section:\n(a) \"Conductive energy device\" means a weapon that uses electrical current to disrupt voluntary control of muscles.\n(b) \"Firearm\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 76-11-101.\n(c) \"Law enforcement officer\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 53-13-103.\n(d) \"Officer-involved critical incident\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 76-2-408.\n(2) A law enforcement officer shall file a report described in Subsection (3) if, during the performance of the officer's duties:\n(a) the officer points a firearm at an individual; or\n(b) the officer aims a conductive energy device at an individual and displays the electrical current.\n(3)\n(a) A report described in Subsection (2) shall include:\n(i) a description of the incident;\n(ii) the identification of the individuals involved in the incident; and\n(iii) any other information required by the law enforcement agency.\n(b) A law enforcement officer shall submit a report required under Subsection (2) to the officer's law enforcement agency within 48 hours after the incident.\n(4) A supervisory law enforcement officer shall review a report submitted under Subsection (3)(b).\n(5) This section does not apply to:\n(a) law enforcement training exercises; or\n(b) an officer who, as part of an officer-involved critical incident, engaged in conduct described under Subsection (2)(a) or (2)(b).","path":["Title 53 Public Safety Code","Chapter 53-13 Peace Officer Classifications"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title53/Chapter13/53-13-S116.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"15fc98aff37bbc22f3b76a9d25b60b0f34c0fae89add516b2932ad4d1cd0cf7d","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-53-13-115","next":"us-ut/utah-code-53-14-101"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
