{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-53-25-101","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 53-25-101","heading":"Prohibition on disclosure of identity of minor homicide victim.","body":"(1) As used in this section:\n(a) \"Criminal homicide\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 76-5-201.\n(b) \"Media outlet\" means a bona fide newspaper, magazine, or broadcast media enterprise, whether conducted on a for-profit or nonprofit basis, engaged in the business of providing news and information to the general public.\n(c) \"Minor victim\" means the victim of a criminal homicide if the victim is younger than 18 years old.\n(d) \"Parent or legal guardian\" does not include an individual who is a suspect or defendant with respect to the criminal homicide.\n(2) A law enforcement agency or a law enforcement officer may not disclose the name or other personally identifying information of a minor victim to a representative of a media outlet unless the law enforcement agency or law enforcement officer has made a reasonable effort to obtain the consent of the minor victim's parent or legal guardian for the disclosure.","path":["Title 53 Public Safety Code","Chapter 53-25 Law Enforcement Requirements","Part 53-25-1 Disclosure and General Reporting Requirements"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title53/Chapter25/53-25-S101.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"fbdfdf8f3505a5eca715029f7bb4e6a2f5deaf0c0e16cedf1867123fa24d2f86","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-53-22-109","next":"us-ut/utah-code-53-25-102"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
