{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-53-2d-402","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 53-2d-402","heading":"Licensure of emergency medical service personnel.","body":"(1) To promote the availability of comprehensive emergency medical services throughout the state, the bureau shall establish:\n(a) initial and ongoing licensure and training requirements for emergency medical service personnel in the following categories:\n(i) paramedic;\n(ii) advanced emergency medical services technician;\n(iii) emergency medical services technician;\n(iv) emergency medical responder;\n(v) behavioral emergency services technician; and\n(vi) advanced behavioral emergency services technician;\n(b) a method to monitor the certification status and continuing medical education hours for emergency medical dispatchers; and\n(c) guidelines for giving credit for out-of-state training and experience.\n(2) The bureau shall, based on the requirements established in Subsection (1):\n(a) develop, conduct, and authorize training and testing for emergency medical service personnel;\n(b) issue a license and license renewals to emergency medical service personnel other than emergency medical dispatchers; and\n(c) verify the certification of emergency medical dispatchers.\n(3) The bureau shall coordinate with local mental health authorities described in Section 17-77-301 to develop and authorize initial and ongoing licensure and training requirements for licensure as a:\n(a) behavioral emergency services technician; and\n(b) advanced behavioral emergency services technician.\n(4) As provided in Section 53-2d-602, an individual issued a license or certified under this section may only provide emergency medical services to the extent allowed by the license or certification.\n(5) An individual may not be issued or retain a license under this section unless the individual obtains and retains background clearance under Section 53-2d-410.\n(6) An individual may not be issued or retain a certification under this section unless the individual obtains and retains background clearance in accordance with Section 53-2d-410.5.","path":["Title 53 Public Safety Code","Chapter 53-2d Emergency Medical Services Act","Part 53-2d-4 Certificates, Designations, Permits, and Licenses"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title53/Chapter2d/53-2d-S402.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"787291c7389c2b62b7dfb9faedba1581b10624693f57c19e87ab74948722c6dc","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-53-2d-401","next":"us-ut/utah-code-53-2d-403"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
