{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-53-2d-408","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 53-2d-408","heading":"Exemptions.","body":"(1) The following persons may provide emergency medical services to a patient without being licensed under this chapter:\n(a) out-of-state emergency medical service personnel and providers in time of disaster;\n(b) an individual who gratuitously acts as a Good Samaritan;\n(c) a family member;\n(d) a private business if emergency medical services are provided only to employees at the place of business and during transport;\n(e) an agency of the United States government if compliance with this chapter would be inconsistent with federal law; and\n(f) police, fire, and other public service personnel if:\n(i) emergency medical services are rendered in the normal course of the person's duties; and\n(ii) medical control, after being apprised of the circumstances, directs immediate transport.\n(2) An ambulance or emergency response vehicle may operate without a permit issued under Section 53-2d-404 in time of disaster.\n(3) Nothing in this chapter or Title 58, Occupations and Professions, may be construed as requiring a license for an individual to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation or to use a fully automated external defibrillator under Section 53-2d-801.\n(4) Nothing in this chapter may be construed as requiring a license, permit, or designation for an acute care hospital, medical clinic, physician's office, or other fixed medical facility that:\n(a) is staffed by a physician, physician's assistant, nurse practitioner, or registered nurse; and\n(b) treats an individual who has presented himself or was transported to the hospital, clinic, office, or facility.","path":["Title 53 Public Safety Code","Chapter 53-2d Emergency Medical Services Act","Part 53-2d-4 Certificates, Designations, Permits, and Licenses"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title53/Chapter2d/53-2d-S408.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"f7675944bf174153e48aac002f3b99c8dc8d64dfed76f3c0a648e23f560497cb","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-53-2d-407","next":"us-ut/utah-code-53-2d-409"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
