{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-53-3-404","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 53-3-404","heading":"Requirements to drive commercial motor vehicle.","body":"(1) A person may not drive a commercial motor vehicle, unless the person has been issued and is in immediate possession of:\n(a) a CDL license certificate valid for the commercial motor vehicle the person is driving; or\n(b) a valid CDIP license certificate in accordance with Section 53-3-408.\n(2)\n(a) A licensee shall display a CDL or CDIP license certificate upon demand of a justice court judge, a peace officer, a special function officer, a port-of-entry officer, or a designee of the division.\n(b) It is a defense to a charge under this section that the person charged produces in court a CDL or CDIP license certificate that is issued to the person and valid at the time of the citation or arrest.\n(3) A person may not drive a commercial motor vehicle if the person's privilege to drive a commercial motor vehicle is:\n(a) suspended, revoked, or canceled;\n(b) subject to a disqualification;\n(c) subject to an out-of-service order; or\n(d) not medically certified as defined in Section 53-3-402.\n(4) A person may not drive a commercial motor vehicle if the commercial motor vehicle is subject to an out-of-service order.","path":["Title 53 Public Safety Code","Chapter 53-3 Uniform Driver License Act","Part 53-3-4 Uniform Commercial Driver License Act"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title53/Chapter3/53-3-S404.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"e10f979861ca258e23c93abb07d3da1f4885e523ac28ea560ffaa35a53d1edd9","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-53-3-403","next":"us-ut/utah-code-53-3-405"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
