{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-53-5a-401","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 53-5a-401","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this part:\n(1) \"Firearm\" means a device from which is expelled a projectile by action of an explosive.\n(2) \"Firearm accessory\" means an item that is used in conjunction with or mounted upon a firearm, firearm action, or firearm receiver but is not essential to the basic function of a firearm, including:\n(a) a telescopic or laser sight;\n(b) a magazine;\n(c) a flash or sound suppressor;\n(d) a folding or aftermarket stock or grip;\n(e) a speed-loader;\n(f) an ammunition carrier; and\n(g) a light for target illumination.\n(3) \"Generic and insignificant parts:\"\n(a) means parts that have other manufacturing or consumer product applications; and\n(b) includes:\n(i) springs;\n(ii) screws;\n(iii) nuts; and\n(iv) pins.\n(4) \"Manufactured\" means creating a firearm, a firearm action or receiver, a firearm accessory, or ammunition from basic materials for functional usefulness, including:\n(a) forging;\n(b) casting;\n(c) machining; and\n(d) another process for working materials.","path":["Title 53 Public Safety Code","Chapter 53-5a Firearm Laws","Part 53-5a-4 Utah State-Made Firearms Protections"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title53/Chapter5a/53-5a-S401.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"8fbabb9e9772196223710b3f3af46e8f4c654e5c1435e1c2dce65a58ada0a688","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-53-5a-312","next":"us-ut/utah-code-53-5a-402"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
