{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-53e-4-307.5","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 53E-4-307.5","heading":"Mathematics benchmark assessment.","body":"(1) As used in this section, \"early mathematics benchmark assessment\" or \"benchmark assessment\" means a standardized assessment to measure the acquisition of mathematics skills in kindergarten and grades 1 through 3 that includes predictive indicators of academic achievement based on measures of early mathematics, computation, and problem solving.\n(2) The state board may approve a benchmark assessment for use statewide by LEAs to assess the mathematics competency of students in kindergarten and grades 1 through 3.\n(3) If the state board approves a benchmark assessment for statewide use under Subsection (2), an LEA shall:\n(a) administer benchmark assessments to students at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year using the mathematics benchmark assessment in:\n(i) kindergarten, as an optional assessment; and\n(ii) grades 1 through 3, as a required assessment; and\n(b) after administering a benchmark assessment described in Subsection (3)(a) to a student, report the results to the student's parent.\n(4) In making the approval described in Subsection (2), the state board shall:\n(a) prioritize the assessment's reliability, validity, speed, and efficiency; and\n(b) ensure the mathematics benchmark assessment's ability to:\n(i) identify students who may be at risk for mathematics difficulties; and\n(ii) measure students' progress through data.","path":["Title 53E Public Education System -- State Administration","Chapter 53E-4 Academic Standards, Assessments, and Materials","Part 53E-4-3 Assessments"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title53E/Chapter4/53E-4-S307.5.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"f844b26ca08c852a189aa98d6d3e65daf0301c7de9194eecf4eafaee79e85006","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-53e-4-307","next":"us-ut/utah-code-53e-4-308"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
