{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-53e-5-301","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 53E-5-301","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this part:\n(1) \"Charter school authorizer\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 53G-5-102.\n(2) \"Cohort\" means all district schools and charter schools identified as:\n(a) springboard schools based on school accountability results from the same school year; or\n(b) elevate schools based on school accountability results from the same school year.\n(3) \"Continuous improvement expert\" means a person identified by the state board under Section 53E-5-305.\n(4) \"Educator\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 53E-6-102.\n(5) \"Elevate school\" means a district school or charter school that:\n(a) is not a Title I school;\n(b) is implementing targeted support and improvement activities under 20 U.S.C. Sec. 6311; and\n(c) has applied and been designated by the state board as an elevate school as described in Section 53E-5-302.1.\n(6) \"Final remedial year\" means the second or third school year following the initial remedial year, as determined by the state board.\n(7) \"Initial remedial year\" means the school year a district school or charter school is designated as a springboard school under Section 53E-5-302 or elevate school under Section 53E-5-302.1.\n(8) \"LEA governing board\" means a local school board or charter school governing board.\n(9) \"School accountability system\" means the school accountability system established in Part 2, School Accountability System.\n(10) \"School improvement committee\" means a committee established under:\n(a) for a district school, Section 53E-5-303; or\n(b) for a charter school, Section 53E-5-304.\n(11) \"School improvement plan\" means a plan described in:\n(a) for a district school, Section 53E-5-303; or\n(b) for a charter school, Section 53E-5-304.\n(12) \"Springboard school\" means a district school or charter school that has been designated a springboard school by the state board because the school:\n(a) is not a Title I school; and\n(b) when ranked according to the percentage of possible points the state board awards under Title 53E, Chapter 5, Part 2, School Accountability System, averaged over three school years is:\n(i) one of the five lowest performing elementary, middle, or junior high schools statewide; or\n(ii) one of the two lowest performing high schools statewide.","path":["Title 53E Public Education System -- State Administration","Chapter 53E-5 Accountability","Part 53E-5-3 School Improvement and Leadership Development"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title53E/Chapter5/53E-5-S301.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"07ed7f340b680f6ae859345c1e056490eaba3e4f8f63456a0c3ea466cd09531d","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-53e-5-211","next":"us-ut/utah-code-53e-5-302"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
