{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-53g-7-215","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 53G-7-215","heading":"Personalized, competency-based learning -- Recommendations -- Coordination.","body":"(1) As used in this section, \"personalized, competency-based learning\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 53F-5-501.\n(2) A local school board or a charter school governing board may establish a personalized, competency-based learning program.\n(3) A local school board or charter school governing board that establishes a personalized, competency-based learning program shall:\n(a) establish assessments to accurately measure competency;\n(b) provide the assessments to an enrolled student at no cost to the student;\n(c) award credit to a student who demonstrates competency and subject mastery;\n(d) submit the competency-based standards to the state board for review; and\n(e) publish the competency-based standards on its website or by other electronic means readily accessible to the public.\n(4) A local school board or charter school governing board may:\n(a) on a random lottery-based basis, limit enrollment to courses that have been designated as competency-based courses;\n(b) waive or adapt traditional attendance requirements;\n(c) adjust class sizes to maximize the value of course instructors or course mentors;\n(d) enroll students from any geographic location within the state; and\n(e) provide proctored online competency-based assessments.","path":["Title 53G Public Education System -- Local Administration","Chapter 53G-7 Public School General Requirements","Part 53G-7-2 Powers and Miscellaneous Duties"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title53G/Chapter7/53G-7-S215.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"747c98e92a365543ac517416bc1cb80d38650a0ee28b801caa7652a4f2a62d20","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-53g-7-214","next":"us-ut/utah-code-53g-7-216"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
