{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-53h-7-201","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 53H-7-201","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this part:\n(1) \"Benefit\" means:\n(a) recognition by an institution;\n(b) registration by an institution;\n(c) the use of an institution's facility for meeting or speaking purposes;\n(d) the use of communication channels; or\n(e) funding sources that are otherwise available to other student organizations at an institution.\n(2) \"Expressive activity\" means an activity that includes:\n(a) peacefully assembling, protesting, or speaking;\n(b) distributing literature;\n(c) carrying a sign;\n(d) circulating a petition; or\n(e) otherwise participating in speech or conduct protected by:\n(i) the First Amendment to the United States Constitution; or\n(ii) Utah Constitution, Article I, Sections 4 and 15.\n(3) \"Student organization\" means a student organized group that is:\n(a) officially recognized, or seeking official recognition, by an institution as a student club; and\n(b) comprised of students that receive, or are seeking to receive, benefits available to student clubs from the institution.","path":["Title 53H Higher Education","Chapter 53H-7 Students' Rights and Responsibilities","Part 53H-7-2 Campus Free Expression"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title53H/Chapter7/53H-7-S201.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"50f7ae453877a2a0c14801eeb73eb78c128252d7374908a1b5cf202e30a33835","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-53h-7-101","next":"us-ut/utah-code-53h-7-202"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
