{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-53h-7-504","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 53H-7-504","heading":"Criminal retaliation against a victim or a witness.","body":"(1) As used in this section:\n(a) \"Bodily injury\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 76-1-101.5.\n(b) \"Damage\" means physical damage to an individual's property.\n(2) An individual is guilty of a third degree felony if the individual inflicts bodily injury or damage:\n(a) upon a victim of or a witness to an act of sexual violence alleged in a covered allegation; and\n(b) in retaliation for the victim's or the witness's:\n(i) report of the covered allegation; or\n(ii) involvement in an investigation initiated by the institution in response to the covered allegation.\n(3) An individual is guilty of a third degree felony if the individual:\n(a) communicates an intention to inflict bodily injury:\n(i) upon a victim of or a witness to an act of sexual violence alleged in a covered allegation; and\n(ii) in retaliation for the victim's or the witness's:\n(A) report of the covered allegation; or\n(B) involvement in an investigation initiated by the institution in response to the covered allegation; and\n(b)\n(i) intends the communication described in Subsection (3)(a) as a threat against the victim or the witness; or\n(ii) knows that the communication described in Subsection (3)(a) will be viewed as a threat against the victim or the witness.","path":["Title 53H Higher Education","Chapter 53H-7 Students' Rights and Responsibilities","Part 53H-7-5 Campus Sexual Violence"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title53H/Chapter7/53H-7-S504.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"8463bc608f21961b1d051e70e7dcf1f06ea6ddac322790201730888badf2c062","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-53h-7-503","next":"us-ut/utah-code-53h-7-601"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
