{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-54-10a-301","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 54-10a-301","heading":"Powers and duties of office.","body":"(1) The office shall:\n(a) assess the impact of utility rate changes and other regulatory actions related to an applicable public utility on:\n(i) residential consumers; and\n(ii) small commercial consumers;\n(b) assist a residential consumer or a small commercial consumer in appearing before the commission; and\n(c) through its director, advocate, on the office's own behalf and in its own name, a position most advantageous to:\n(i) residential consumers; and\n(ii) small commercial consumers.\n(2)\n(a) The director may bring an original action in the name of the office before:\n(i) the commission; or\n(ii) a court having appellate jurisdiction over an order or decision of the commission.\n(b) The director on behalf of the office may:\n(i) commence an original proceeding, file a complaint, appear as a party, appeal, or otherwise represent residential consumers or small commercial consumers in a matter or a proceeding involving regulation of an applicable public utility pending before one or more of the following of the federal government:\n(A) an officer, department, board, agency, commission, or governmental authority; or\n(B) a court; or\n(ii) intervene in, protest, resist, or advocate the granting, denial, or modification of a petition, application, complaint, or other proceeding, decision, or order of a governmental authority of the federal government.","path":["Title 54 Public Utilities","Chapter 54-10a Office of Consumer Services Act","Part 54-10a-3 Powers and Duties of Office"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title54/Chapter10a/54-10a-S301.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"c2aeacdbf4106cfed26c957d33a1f2bf15a25d0a09fd5400f444fa6e857aa74e","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-54-10a-203","next":"us-ut/utah-code-54-10a-302"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
