{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-58-11a-302.24","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 58-11a-302.24","heading":"Practice of barbering -- Legacy barbering license -- Qualifications.","body":"(1) Except as provided in Subsection (3), the division may not issue a legacy barbering license after January 1, 2026.\n(2) An individual with a legacy barbering license may engage in the practice of barbering, which includes:\n(a) cutting, clipping, or trimming the hair of the head of an individual by using scissors, shears, clippers, or other appliances;\n(b) engaging in draping, shampooing, scalp treatments, basic wet styling, and blow drying;\n(c) cutting, wet styling, fitting, measuring, or forming caps for wigs and hairpieces on the human head;\n(d) removing hair from the face or neck of an individual by using shaving equipment; and\n(e) when providing other services described in this Subsection (2), gently massaging the head, back of the neck, and shoulders by manual or mechanical means.\n(3) The division shall grant a legacy barbering license to an individual who:\n(a)\n(i) has registered a barbering apprenticeship that meets the requirements of Subsection (4)(a) with the division on or before January 1, 2026; and\n(ii) completes the requirements described in Subsection (4)(a); or\n(b)\n(i) has enrolled and started a barbering program that meets the requirements of Subsection (4)(b) with a licensed school on or before January 1, 2026; and\n(ii) completes the requirements described in Subsection (4)(b).\n(4)\n(a) An individual described in Subsection (3)(a) shall complete at least 1,250 hours of apprenticeship training that is supervised by a licensed barbering instructor who provides one-on-one supervision of the apprentice during the apprenticeship.\n(b) An individual described in Subsection (3)(b) shall graduate from a licensed school with a minimum of 1,000 hours or the equivalent number of credit hours.\n(5) An individual with a legacy barbering license may apply credit hours to another license or permit under this chapter, as allowed in Subsection 58-11a-302(2).","path":["Title 58 Occupations and Professions","Chapter 58-11a Cosmetology and Associated Professions Licensing Act","Part 58-11a-3 Licensing"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title58/Chapter11a/58-11a-S302.24.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"bc8c462692903bce37255ee48610ec3a0a5e3d3fc06f6301c9d6e690be9d85aa","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-58-11a-302.23","next":"us-ut/utah-code-58-11a-302.25"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
