{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-58-17b-613","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 58-17b-613","heading":"Patient counseling.","body":"(1) A pharmacy shall verbally offer to counsel a patient or a patient's agent in a personal face-to-face discussion regarding each prescription drug dispensed, if the patient or patient's agent:\n(a) delivers the prescription in person to the pharmacist or pharmacy intern; or\n(b) receives the drug in person at the time it is dispensed at the pharmacy facility.\n(2) A pharmacist or pharmacy intern at a pharmacy that receives a prescription from a patient by means other than personal delivery, and that dispenses a prescribed drug to the patient by means other than personal delivery, shall provide the patient with:\n(a) for a class D pharmacy, a toll-free telephone number at which the patient may contact a pharmacist or pharmacy intern at the pharmacy for patient counseling regarding the prescribed drug; or\n(b) for a class A pharmacy, a telephone number by which the patient may contact a pharmacist or pharmacy intern at the pharmacy for patient counseling regarding the prescribed drug.\n(3) Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsections (1) and (2), a pharmacist or a pharmacy intern may:\n(a) provide patient counseling to an individual under the jurisdiction of the Utah Department of Corrections or a county detention facility via a written, telephone, or electronic communication; and\n(b) provide medication guides or package inserts via written communication.","path":["Title 58 Occupations and Professions","Chapter 58-17b Pharmacy Practice Act","Part 58-17b-6 Regulation of the Practice of Pharmacy Operating Standards"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title58/Chapter17b/58-17b-S613.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"2fca1bf3aa05073db8cac8de84daec598bae829efdec4a02314572c7a64965cb","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-58-17b-612","next":"us-ut/utah-code-58-17b-614"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
