{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-58-20b-102","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 58-20b-102","heading":"Definitions.","body":"In addition to the definitions in Section 58-1-102, as used in this chapter:\n(1) \"Accredited program\" means a degree-offering program from:\n(a) an institution, college, or university that is accredited by the Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation; or\n(b) a non-accredited institution, college, or university that offers education equivalent to Department of Education-accredited programs, as determined by a third party selected by the board.\n(2) \"Board\" means the Environmental Health Scientist Board created in Section 58-20b-201.\n(3) \"General supervision\" means the supervising environmental health scientist is available for immediate voice communication with the person he or she is supervising.\n(4) \"Practice of environmental health science\" means:\n(a) the enforcement of, the issuance of permits required by, or the inspection for the purpose of enforcing state and local public health laws in the following areas:\n(i) air quality;\n(ii) food safety;\n(iii) solid, hazardous, and toxic substances disposal;\n(iv) consumer product safety;\n(v) housing;\n(vi) noise control;\n(vii) radiation protection;\n(viii) water quality;\n(ix) vector control;\n(x) drinking water quality;\n(xi) milk sanitation;\n(xii) rabies control;\n(xiii) public health nuisances;\n(xiv) indoor clean air regulations;\n(xv) institutional and residential sanitation; or\n(xvi) recreational facilities sanitation; or\n(b) representing oneself in any manner as, or using the titles \"environmental health scientist,\" \"environmental health scientist-in-training,\" or \"registered sanitarian.\"\n(5) \"Unlawful conduct\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 58-1-501.\n(6) \"Unprofessional conduct\" means the same as that term is defined in Sections 58-1-501 and 58-20b-501 and as may be further defined by division rule.","path":["Title 58 Occupations and Professions","Chapter 58-20b Environmental Health Scientist Act","Part 58-20b-1 General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title58/Chapter20b/58-20b-S102.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"16bf2c850736e54d9da92412796b2f3241c3fc3ba553ff3307e8d4768518d8b1","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-58-20b-101","next":"us-ut/utah-code-58-20b-201"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
