{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-58-60-512","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 58-60-512","heading":"Scope of practice -- Limitations.","body":"(1) An individual who is licensed as a master addiction counselor:\n(a) may engage in practice as a licensed master addiction counselor without supervision, in private and independent practice or as an employee of another person, limited only by the licensee's education, training, and competence; and\n(b) may engage in the practice of mental health therapy.\n(2) To the extent an individual has completed the educational requirements of Section 58-60-506, a licensed associate master addiction counselor may engage in the practice as a licensed master addiction counselor and licensed advanced substance use disorder counselor if the practice is:\n(a) within the scope of employment as a licensed master addiction counselor or a licensed advanced substance use disorder counselor with, as defined by the division in rule, a public agency or private clinic; and\n(b) under supervision of a qualified licensed mental health therapist as defined in Section 58-60-102.\n(3) A licensed associate master addiction counselor may not engage in the unsupervised practice of master addiction counseling.","path":["Title 58 Occupations and Professions","Chapter 58-60 Mental Health Professional Practice Act","Part 58-60-5 Substance Use Disorder Counselor Act"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title58/Chapter60/58-60-S512.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"22b20eeb45480d1c164be961a63b75b082d41e664bc6878d1829e722eb56c90c","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-58-60-510","next":"us-ut/utah-code-58-60-601"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
