{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-63a-16-102","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 63A-16-102","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this chapter:\n(1) \"Chief information officer\" means the chief information officer appointed under Section 63A-16-201.\n(2) \"Data center\" means a centralized repository for the storage, management, and dissemination of data.\n(3) \"Division\" means the Division of Technology Services.\n(4) \"Enterprise architecture\" means:\n(a) information technology assets and functions that can be applied across state government, including:\n(i) mainframes, servers, desktop devices, peripherals, and other computing devices;\n(ii) networks;\n(iii) enterprise-wide applications;\n(iv) maintenance and help desk functions for common hardware and applications;\n(v) standards for other computing devices, operating systems, common applications, and software; and\n(vi) master contracts that are available for use by agencies for various systems, including operating systems, databases, enterprise resource planning and customer relationship management software, application development services, and enterprise integration; and\n(b) support for information technology that can be applied across state government, including:\n(i) technical support;\n(ii) master software licenses; and\n(iii) hardware and software standards.\n(5)\n(a) \"Executive branch agency\" means an agency or administrative subunit of state government.\n(b) \"Executive branch agency\" does not include:\n(i) the legislative branch;\n(ii) the judicial branch;\n(iii) the State Board of Education;\n(iv) the Utah Board of Higher Education;\n(v) institutions of higher education;\n(vi) independent entities as defined in Section 63E-1-102; or\n(vii) the following elective constitutional offices of the executive department:\n(A) the state auditor;\n(B) the state treasurer; and\n(C) the attorney general.\n(6) \"Executive branch strategic plan\" means the executive branch strategic plan created under Section 63A-16-202.\n(7) \"Individual with a disability\" means an individual with a condition that meets the definition of \"disability\" in 42 U.S.C. Sec. 12102.\n(8) \"Information technology\" means all computerized and auxiliary automated information handling, including:\n(a) systems design and analysis;\n(b) acquisition, storage, and conversion of data;\n(c) computer programming;\n(d) information storage and retrieval;\n(e) voice, video, and data communications;\n(f) requisite systems controls;\n(g) simulation; and\n(h) all related interactions between people and machines.\n(9) \"State information architecture\" means a logically consistent set of principles, policies, and standards that guide the engineering of state government's information technology and infrastructure in a way that ensures alignment with state government's business and service needs.","path":["Title 63A Utah Government Operations Code","Chapter 63A-16 Governance Of Technology","Part 63A-16-1 General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title63A/Chapter16/63A-16-S102.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"59e26a9f4c92afdf1049f501efadfac615df41f40481ddec26327ace1f83b182","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-63a-15-706","next":"us-ut/utah-code-63a-16-103"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
