{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-63a-17-802","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 63A-17-802","heading":"Education benefit plan for law enforcement and correctional officers.","body":"(1) As used in this section:\n(a) \"Law enforcement officer\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 53-13-103.\n(b) \"Correctional officer\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 53-13-104.\n(2) The director shall establish a plan authorizing any agency to implement an educational compensation program for law enforcement officers and correctional officers employed by that agency.\n(3) The program shall provide that in order for a law enforcement officer or correctional officer to qualify for education benefits for college or university education, the law enforcement officer or correctional officer shall:\n(a) provide a certified transcript of grades, demonstrating a grade point average of 3.0 or greater, from an accredited college or university; and\n(b) have successfully completed the probationary employment period with the employing agency.\n(4) The program shall also provide that the agency may consider a law enforcement officer or correctional officer to receive additional compensation as follows for higher education degrees earned on or after April 30, 2001, in a subject area directly related to the law enforcement officer's or correctional officer's employment with the agency:\n(a) 5.5% for an associate's degree;\n(b) 5.5% for a bachelor's degree; and\n(c) 5.5% for a master's degree.\n(5) Expenses incurred by an agency to provide additional compensation under this section may be only from the agency's existing budget.","path":["Title 63A Utah Government Operations Code","Chapter 63A-17 Utah State Personnel Management Act","Part 63A-17-8 Plans and Programs"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title63A/Chapter17/63A-17-S802.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"c24c4ef524f5655584f8c387ec275fc8032e0412a71f1d698342a2476ec030c7","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-63a-17-801","next":"us-ut/utah-code-63a-17-803"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
