{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-63g-27-102","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 63G-27-102","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this chapter:\n(1) \"Boycott action\" means refusing to deal, terminating business activities, or limiting commercial relations.\n(2) \"Boycott of the State of Israel\" means engaging in a boycott action targeting:\n(a) the State of Israel; and\n(b)\n(i) companies or individuals doing business in or with the State of Israel; or\n(ii) companies authorized by, licensed by, or organized under the laws of the State of Israel to do business.\n(3) \"Boycotted company\" means a company that:\n(a) engages in the exploration, production, utilization, transportation, sale, or manufacture of fossil fuel-based energy, timber, mining, or agriculture;\n(b) engages in, facilitates, or supports the manufacture, distribution, sale, or use of firearms;\n(c) does not meet or commit to meet environmental standards, including standards for eliminating, reducing, offsetting, or disclosing greenhouse gas-emissions, beyond applicable state and federal law requirements; or\n(d) does not facilitate or commit to facilitate access to abortion or sex characteristic surgical procedures.\n(4)\n(a) \"Company\" means a corporation, partnership, limited liability company, or similar entity.\n(b) \"Company\" includes any wholly-owned subsidiary, majority-owned subsidiary, parent company, or affiliate of an entity described in Subsection (4)(a).\n(5) \"Economic boycott\" means, without an ordinary business purpose:\n(a) engaging in a boycott action targeting:\n(i) a boycotted company; or\n(ii) another company because the company does business with a boycotted company; or\n(b) taking an action intended to penalize, inflict economic harm to, or change or limit the activities of:\n(i) a boycotted company; or\n(ii) another company because the company does business with a boycotted company.\n(6)\n(a) \"Ordinary business purpose\" means a purpose that is related to business operations.\n(b) \"Ordinary business purpose\" does not include a purpose that is solely related to furthering social, political, or ideological interests.\n(7) \"Public entity\" means the state or a political subdivision of the state, including each department, division, office, board, commission, council, authority, or institution of the state or a political subdivision of the state.","path":["Title 63G General Government","Chapter 63G-27 Public Contract Boycott Restrictions","Part 63G-27-1 General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title63G/Chapter27/63G-27-S102.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"e2e646fdfeb28c2d9312fdc9c141187b8dd56ced9f81573b7f10b07447081f0c","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-63g-26-105","next":"us-ut/utah-code-63g-27-201"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
