{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-63g-7-502","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 63G-7-502","heading":"Venue of actions.","body":"(1) Notwithstanding Title 78B, Chapter 3a, Venue for Civil Actions, a person shall bring an action described in this chapter in:\n(a) Salt Lake County; or\n(b) the county in which the claim arose.\n(2)\n(a) Notwithstanding Title 78B, Chapter 3a, Venue for Civil Actions, a person shall bring an action against a county in:\n(i) the county in which the claim arose; or\n(ii) the defendant county.\n(b)\n(i) A district court judge of the defendant county may transfer venue to any county contiguous to the defendant county.\n(ii) A motion to transfer may be filed ex parte.\n(3) Notwithstanding Title 78B, Chapter 3a, Venue for Civil Actions, a person shall bring an action against any other political subdivision, including a city or a town, in the county in which:\n(a) the political subdivision is located; or\n(b) the claim arose.","path":["Title 63G General Government","Chapter 63G-7 Governmental Immunity Act of Utah","Part 63G-7-5 Legal Actions Under this Chapter - Jurisdiction and Venue"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title63G/Chapter7/63G-7-S502.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"011a6b7ff2d16ab85931f139ac55e5c54441dbfc33eaeebfd873f511973c5122","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-63g-7-501","next":"us-ut/utah-code-63g-7-601"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
