{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-65a-8-101","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 65A-8-101","heading":"Division responsibilities for fire management and the conservation of forest, watershed, and other lands -- Reciprocal agreements for fire protection.","body":"(1) The division, in consultation with local authorities, shall determine and execute the best method for protecting private and public property by:\n(a) except as provided by Subsection (1)(d), preventing, preparing for, or mitigating the origin and spread of fire on nonfederal forest, range, watershed, or wildland urban interface land in the state;\n(b) encouraging a landowner to conserve, protect, and manage forest or other land throughout the state;\n(c) taking action the division considers appropriate to manage wildland fire and protect life and property on nonfederal forest, range, watershed, or wildland urban interface land within the state; and\n(d) implementing a limited fire suppression strategy, including allowing a fire to burn with limited or modified suppression, if the division determines that the strategy is appropriate for a specific area or circumstance.\n(2) The division may:\n(a) enter into an agreement with a public or private agency or individual:\n(i) for the purpose of protecting, managing, or rehabilitating land owned or managed by the agency or individual; and\n(ii) establishing a predetermined fire suppression plan, including a limited fire suppression strategy, for a specific fire management area; and\n(b) enter into a reciprocal agreement with a fire protection organization, including a federal agency, to provide fire protection for land, and an improvement on land, for which the organization normally provides fire protection.","path":["Title 65A Forestry, Fire, and State Lands","Chapter 65A-8 Management of Forest Lands and Fire Control","Part 65A-8-1 General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title65A/Chapter8/65A-8-S101.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"0def5decb723106be47282cb6ac474e63b51f87821719c51b1a807e3f710f974","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-65a-7-8","next":"us-ut/utah-code-65a-8-102"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
