{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-65a-8-209","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 65A-8-209","heading":"Responsibilities of county sheriffs and fire wardens in controlling fires.","body":"(1) In a county that has not entered into a cooperative agreement as described in Section 65A-8-203, the county sheriff shall take appropriate action to suppress wildfires on state or private lands.\n(2) In all cases the county sheriff shall:\n(a) report, as prescribed by the state forester, on wildland fire control action;\n(b) investigate and report wildfire causes; and\n(c) enforce the provisions of this chapter either independently or in cooperation with the state forester.\n(3) In an eligible entity that has entered into a cooperative agreement, as described in Section 65A-8-203, the primary responsibility for wildfire management is the division, upon the delegation of fire management authority, as described in Section 65A-8-203.1.\n(4) The county sheriff and the county sheriff's organization shall maintain cooperative support of the fire management organization.","path":["Title 65A Forestry, Fire, and State Lands","Chapter 65A-8 Management of Forest Lands and Fire Control","Part 65A-8-2 Fire Control"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title65A/Chapter8/65A-8-S209.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"877238f1f8d915d7969003f8f119231b1eb08dca1ada5d7fcc41469f834f02a8","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-65a-8-203.2","next":"us-ut/utah-code-65a-8-209.1"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
