{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-70a-2-103","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 70A-2-103","heading":"Definitions and index of definitions.","body":"(1) In this chapter unless the context otherwise requires:\n(a) \"Buyer\" means a person who buys or contracts to buy goods.\n(b) \"Good faith\" in the case of a merchant means honesty in fact and the observance of reasonable commercial standards of fair dealing in the trade.\n(c) \"Receipt\" of goods means taking physical possession of them.\n(d) \"Seller\" means a person who sells or contracts to sell goods.\n(2) Other definitions applying to this chapter or to specified parts thereof, and the sections in which they appear are:\n(a) \"Acceptance.\" Section 70A-2-606.\n(b) \"Banker's credit.\" Section 70A-2-325.\n(c) \"Between merchants.\" Section 70A-2-104.\n(d) \"Cancellation.\" Subsection 70A-2-106(4).\n(e) \"Commercial unit.\" Section 70A-2-105.\n(f) \"Confirmed credit.\" Section 70A-2-325.\n(g) \"Conforming to contract.\" Section 70A-2-106.\n(h) \"Contract for sale.\" Section 70A-2-106.\n(i) \"Cover.\" Section 70A-2-712.\n(j) \"Entrusting.\" Section 70A-2-403.\n(k) \"Financing agency.\" Section 70A-2-104.\n(l) \"Future goods.\" Section 70A-2-105.\n(m) \"Goods.\" Section 70A-2-105.\n(n) \"Identification.\" Section 70A-2-501.\n(o) \"Installment contract.\" Section 70A-2-612.\n(p) \"Letter of Credit.\" Section 70A-2-325.\n(q) \"Lot.\" Section 70A-2-105.\n(r) \"Merchant.\" Section 70A-2-104.\n(s) \"Overseas.\" Section 70A-2-323.\n(t) \"Person in position of seller.\" Section 70A-2-707.\n(u) \"Present sale.\" Section 70A-2-106.\n(v) \"Sale.\" Section 70A-2-106.\n(w) \"Sale on approval.\" Section 70A-2-326.\n(x) \"Sale or return.\" Section 70A-2-326.\n(y) \"Termination.\" Section 70A-2-106.\n(3) \"Control\" as provided in Section 70A-7a-106, and the following definitions in other chapters apply to this chapter:\n(a) \"Check.\" Section 70A-3-104.\n(b) \"Consignee.\" Section 70A-7a-102.\n(c) \"Consignor.\" Section 70A-7a-102.\n(d) \"Consumer goods.\" Section 70A-9a-102.\n(e) \"Dishonor.\" Section 70A-3-502.\n(f) \"Draft.\" Section 70A-3-104.\n(4) In addition, Chapter 1a, Uniform Commercial Code - General Provisions, contains general definitions and principles of construction and interpretation applicable throughout this chapter.","path":["Title 70A Uniform Commercial Code","Chapter 70A-2 Uniform Commercial Code - Sales","Part 70A-2-1 Short Title, General Construction and Subject Matter"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title70A/Chapter2/70A-2-S103.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"6ce9e1c6fb85975d0bd188e0ee17fcce68a7b724b926ccddc074de665f5ca8c9","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-70a-2-102","next":"us-ut/utah-code-70a-2-104"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
