{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-72-7-403","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 72-7-403","heading":"Towing requirements and limitations on towing.","body":"(1)\n(a) The draw-bar or other connection between any two vehicles, one of which is towing or drawing the other on a highway, may not exceed 15 feet in length from one vehicle to the other except:\n(i) in the case of a connection between any two vehicles transporting poles, pipe, machinery, or structural material that cannot be dismembered when transported upon a pole trailer as defined in Section 41-6a-102; or\n(ii) when operated under a permit under Section 72-7-406.\n(b) When the connection between the two vehicles is a chain, rope, or cable, a red flag or other signal or cloth not less than 12 inches both in length and width shall be displayed on or near the midpoint of the connection.\n(2) A person may not operate a combination of vehicles when any trailer, semitrailer, or other vehicle being towed:\n(a) whips or swerves from side to side dangerously or unreasonably; or\n(b) fails to follow substantially in the path of the towing vehicle.\n(3) A person who violates this section is guilty of an infraction.","path":["Title 72 Transportation Code","Chapter 72-7 Protection of Highways Act","Part 72-7-4 Vehicle Size, Weight, and Load Limitations"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title72/Chapter7/72-7-S403.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"951ddd93ab7b58eb5c91ea5c7ec72728c7a957ee0e80cbb6c41a2cfd7b43eca2","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-72-7-402","next":"us-ut/utah-code-72-7-404"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
