{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-76-11-204","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 76-11-204","heading":"Unlawfully carrying a firearm in a vehicle.","body":"(1) Terms defined in Sections 76-1-101.5, 76-11-101, and 76-11-201 apply to this section.\n(2) An actor commits unlawfully carrying a firearm in a vehicle if the actor:\n(a) is 18 years old or older; and\n(b)\n(i)\n(A) is carrying a firearm that is readily accessible by the actor for immediate use; and\n(B) is in a vehicle in which the actor is not lawfully present; or\n(ii) is carrying a loaded rifle, shotgun, or muzzle-loading rifle in any vehicle.\n(3) A violation of Subsection (2) is a class B misdemeanor.\n(4) This section does not prohibit the owner or lawful possessor of a vehicle from prohibiting another individual who may otherwise lawfully carry a firearm from carrying a firearm in the owner's or lawful possessor's vehicle.\n(5) An actor is lawfully present in a vehicle while carrying a firearm under this section if:\n(a) the vehicle is in the lawful possession of the actor; or\n(b) the actor has the consent of the person lawfully in possession of the vehicle to carry the firearm in the vehicle.\n(6) This section does not apply if the actor has a concealed carry permit issued under Section 53-5a-303, a temporary concealed carry permit issued under Section 53-5a-304, a provisional concealed carry permit issued under Section 53-5a-305, or a concealed carry permit lawfully issued by or in another state.","path":["Title 76 Criminal Offenses","Chapter 76-11 Weapons","Part 76-11-2 General Weapons Violations"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title76/Chapter11/76-11-S204.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"5fe69613711f35afa0df2a171856ed9db9352bd79201618c6b63cf567c0223a8","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-76-11-203","next":"us-ut/utah-code-76-11-205"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
