{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-76-13-212","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 76-13-212","heading":"Allowing a vicious animal to go at large.","body":"(1) Terms defined in Sections 76-1-101.5, 76-13-101, and 76-13-201 apply to this section.\n(2) An actor commits allowing a vicious animal to go at large if:\n(a) the actor is an owner of a vicious animal, knowing the animal's propensities, and:\n(i) willfully allows the animal to go at large; or\n(ii) keeps the animal without ordinary care; and\n(b) the animal, while at large, or while not kept with ordinary care, causes injury to or the death of another animal or a human being who has taken reasonable precautions under the circumstances.\n(3)\n(a) Except as provided in Subsection (3)(b), a violation of Subsection (2) is a class B misdemeanor.\n(b) A violation of Subsection (2) is a third degree felony if the animal causes the death of a human being.","path":["Title 76 Criminal Offenses","Chapter 76-13 Offenses Involving Cruelty to Animals","Part 76-13-2 Cruelty to Animal Offenses"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title76/Chapter13/76-13-S212.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"fb3bf9d5be0d54f00668667b0fa132dfcdc756fc63c3c92ed7b4048e2515b87b","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-76-13-211","next":"us-ut/utah-code-76-13-213"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
