{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-76-5-701","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 76-5-701","heading":"Female genital mutilation definition.","body":"(1) As used in this part, \"female genital mutilation\" means any procedure that involves partial or total removal of the external female genitalia, or any harmful procedure to the female genitalia, including:\n(a) clitoridectomy;\n(b) the partial or total removal of the clitoris or the prepuce;\n(c) excision or the partial or total removal of the clitoris and the labia minora, with or without excision of the labia majora;\n(d) infibulation or the narrowing of the vaginal orifice with the creation of a covering seal by cutting and appositioning the labia minora or the labia majora, with or without excision of the clitoris;\n(e) pricking, piercing, incising, or scraping, and cauterizing the genital area; or\n(f) any other actions intended to alter the structure or function of the female genitalia for non-medical reasons.\n(2) Female genital mutilation is considered a form of child abuse for mandatory reporting under Section 80-2-602.","path":["Title 76 Criminal Offenses","Chapter 76-5 Offenses Against the Individual","Part 76-5-7 Genital Mutilation"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title76/Chapter5/76-5-S701.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"071c2327918a527a055e9f9425c1c51af96fc9e9807d66096fd3b09b052d868a","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-76-5-424","next":"us-ut/utah-code-76-5-702"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
