{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-76-7-332","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 76-7-332","heading":"Drugs known to be used for abortion -- Prescriber limitation -- Criminal penalties -- Pharmacy presumption for other use.","body":"(1) As used in the section, \"abortion-related drug\" means a drug or medication that is known to be used for the purpose of performing an abortion, and includes:\n(a) methotrexate, or methotrexate with misoprostol;\n(b) mifepristone, also known as mifeprex;\n(c) misoprostol, also known as cytotec; and\n(d) RU-486.\n(2) An individual may not prescribe an abortion-related drug for the purpose of causing an abortion, unless the individual is licensed as a physician in this state under:\n(a) Title 58, Chapter 67, Utah Medical Practice Act; or\n(b) Title 58, Chapter 68, Utah Osteopathic Medical Practice Act.\n(3) A violation of Subsection (2) is a class B misdemeanor.\n(4)\n(a) Any prescription or medical order for a drug that is known to possibly cause an abortion shall be presumed by a pharmacy to be for an indication other than for the termination of a pregnancy.\n(b) A pharmacy dispensing a prescription or medical order for a drug that is known to possibly cause an abortion shall not be required to verify whether the prescription or medical order violates any provision of this chapter.","path":["Title 76 Criminal Offenses","Chapter 76-7 Offenses Against the Family","Part 76-7-3 Abortion"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title76/Chapter7/76-7-S332.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"ed15258cb99a0c1a66bfc7db5e128ce7a840939aa55c3c46c8724666d2e36693","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-76-7-331","next":"us-ut/utah-code-76-7-401"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
