{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-76-8-1301","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 76-8-1301","heading":"False statement to obtain or increase unemployment compensation.","body":"(1) Terms defined in Sections 76-1-101.5 and 76-8-101 apply to this section.\n(2) An actor commits false statement to obtain or increase unemployment compensation if the actor, to obtain or increase a benefit or other payment under Title 35A, Chapter 4, Employment Security Act, or under the Unemployment Compensation Law of any state or of the federal government:\n(a) makes a false statement or representation, knowing the representation is false; or\n(b) knowingly fails to disclose a material fact.\n(3)\n(a) A violation of Subsection (2) is:\n(i) a class B misdemeanor if the value of the money obtained or sought to be obtained is less than $500;\n(ii) a class A misdemeanor if the value of the money obtained or sought to be obtained is or exceeds $500 but is less than $1,500;\n(iii) a third degree felony if the value of the money obtained or sought to be obtained is or exceeds $1,500 but is less than $5,000; or\n(iv) a second degree felony if the value of the money obtained or sought to be obtained is or exceeds $5,000.\n(b) The determination of the degree of an offense under Subsection (3)(a) is measured by the total value of all money obtained or sought to be obtained by the unlawful conduct.","path":["Title 76 Criminal Offenses","Chapter 76-8 Offenses Against the Administration of Government","Part 76-8-13 Unemployment Insurance Fraud"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title76/Chapter8/76-8-S1301.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"c3d3df99c79b80a8ccfddffc9a3aaf2cd9eba7bfb30961dbb6b8019fac5ea4f5","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-76-8-1207","next":"us-ut/utah-code-76-8-1302"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
