{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-76-8-413","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 76-8-413","heading":"Stealing, destroying or mutilating public records by one not custodian.","body":"(1)\n(a) As used in this section, \"public record\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 76-8-412.\n(b) Terms defined in Sections 76-1-101.5 and 76-8-101 apply to this section.\n(2) An actor commits stealing, destroying, or mutilating a public record by a noncustodian if the actor:\n(a) does not have lawful custody of a public record; and\n(b) steals, willfully destroys, mutilates, defaces, alters, falsifies, removes, or secrets the whole or a part of the public record or permits another individual to do so.\n(3) A violation of Subsection (2) is a class A misdemeanor.","path":["Title 76 Criminal Offenses","Chapter 76-8 Offenses Against the Administration of Government","Part 76-8-4 Offenses Against Public Property"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title76/Chapter8/76-8-S413.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"d2fd8d1ff4e87db03a16610a4f51e10484e9e9a7aa8f10660650e99d2b1c9fa8","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-76-8-412","next":"us-ut/utah-code-76-8-414"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
