{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-76-8-508","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 76-8-508","heading":"Tampering with a witness.","body":"(1) Terms defined in Sections 76-1-101.5, 76-8-101, and 76-8-501 apply to this section.\n(2) An actor commits tampering with a witness if the actor:\n(a)\n(i) believes that an official proceeding or investigation is pending or about to be instituted; or\n(ii) intends to prevent an official proceeding or investigation; and\n(b) attempts to induce or otherwise cause another individual to:\n(i) testify or inform falsely;\n(ii) withhold testimony, information, a document, or an item;\n(iii) elude legal process summoning the individual to provide evidence; or\n(iv) absent the individual from a proceeding or investigation to which the individual has been summoned.\n(3) A violation of Subsection (2) is a third degree felony.\n(4) A violation under this section does not merge with another substantive offense committed in the course of violating this section.","path":["Title 76 Criminal Offenses","Chapter 76-8 Offenses Against the Administration of Government","Part 76-8-5 Falsification in Official Matters"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title76/Chapter8/76-8-S508.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"9e29f9f8222d997a47df3c6cccb1b89bb62e95c429662e347ed63dbd32ef7a82","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-76-8-507","next":"us-ut/utah-code-76-8-508.3"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
