{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-76-8-508.5","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 76-8-508.5","heading":"Tampering with or retaliating against a juror.","body":"(1)\n(a) As used in this section, \"juror\" means an individual:\n(i) summoned for jury duty; or\n(ii) serving as or having served as a juror or alternate juror in any court or as a juror on any grand jury of the state.\n(b) Terms defined in Sections 76-1-101.5, 76-8-101, and 76-8-501 apply to this section.\n(2) An actor commits tampering or retaliating against a juror if the actor:\n(a) attempts to or actually influences a juror in the discharge of the juror's service by:\n(i) communicating with the juror by any means, directly or indirectly, except for an attorney in the lawful discharge of the attorney's duties in open court;\n(ii) offering, conferring, or agreeing to confer any benefit upon the juror; or\n(iii)\n(A) communicating to the juror a threat that a reasonable person would believe to be a threat to injure:\n(I) the juror's person or property; or\n(II) the person or property of another individual in whose welfare the juror is interested; and\n(B) the actor is reckless as to whether the actor's threat would be considered to be threatening by a reasonable person who received the threat; or\n(b) commits an unlawful act in retaliation for an action taken by the juror in the discharge of the juror's service:\n(i) to the juror's person or property; or\n(ii) to the person or property of another individual in whose welfare the juror is interested.\n(3) A violation of Subsection (2) is a third degree felony.","path":["Title 76 Criminal Offenses","Chapter 76-8 Offenses Against the Administration of Government","Part 76-8-5 Falsification in Official Matters"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title76/Chapter8/76-8-S508.5.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"a224c73f1d38b19b01113f799c16bc82dbb5fc80fba60e40bd44c1a7cd69431f","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-76-8-508.3","next":"us-ut/utah-code-76-8-508.7"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
