{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-76-8-515","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 76-8-515","heading":"Impersonation of a utility officer or employee.","body":"(1)\n(a) As used in this section:\n(i) \"Critical infrastructure facility\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 76-6-106.3.\n(ii) \"Sabotage\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 76-8-901.\n(iii) \"Terrorism\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 53-2a-102.\n(iv) \"Utility\" means a private or governmental entity operating a critical infrastructure facility.\n(b) Terms defined in Sections 76-1-101.5, 76-8-101, and 76-8-501 apply to this section.\n(2) An actor commits impersonation of a utility officer or employee if the actor, without authority from a utility:\n(a) intends to lead an individual to believe that the actor is acting on behalf of the utility in an official capacity; and\n(b) attempts to act on behalf of the utility.\n(3)\n(a) Except as provided in Subsection (3)(b), a violation of Subsection (2) is a class A misdemeanor.\n(b) A violation of Subsection (2) is a third degree felony if the actor, while taking the action described in Subsection (2), intends to commit an act of terrorism or sabotage.","path":["Title 76 Criminal Offenses","Chapter 76-8 Offenses Against the Administration of Government","Part 76-8-5 Falsification in Official Matters"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title76/Chapter8/76-8-S515.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"65fe7d2f62a9ea8863fbfc397194a0885f0f4b0bc3d05b7015762afe4746da1a","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-76-8-513","next":"us-ut/utah-code-76-8-601"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
