{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-76-9-1703","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 76-9-1703","heading":"Unlawful use of a laser pointer against an aircraft.","body":"(1) Terms defined in Sections 76-1-101.5 and 76-9-1701 apply to this section.\n(2) An actor commits unlawful use of a laser pointer against an aircraft if the actor directs a beam of laser light from a laser pointer at an aircraft or the occupants of an aircraft.\n(3)\n(a) Except as provided in Subsection (3)(b), a violation of Subsection (2) is a class B misdemeanor.\n(b) Except as provided in Subsection (3)(c), a violation of Subsection (2) is a class A misdemeanor if the actor previously has been convicted of a violation of Subsection (2).\n(c) A violation of Subsection (2) is a third degree felony if the actor's conduct causes an aircraft to crash or perform an emergency landing.\n(4) If the violation of this section constitutes an offense subject to a greater penalty under another provision of this title than is provided under this section, this section does not prohibit the prosecution and sentencing for the offense subject to a greater penalty.","path":["Title 76 Criminal Offenses","Chapter 76-9 Offenses Against Public Order, Health, and Safety","Part 76-9-17 Unlawful Use of a Laser Pointer"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title76/Chapter9/76-9-S1703.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"07efb353574e8c63330fa239b8597c9f9de9b96338f9acf8ce16d7fe68702f64","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-76-9-1702","next":"us-ut/utah-code-76-9-1704"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
