{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-76-9-2001","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 76-9-2001","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this part:\n(1) \"Body piercing\" means the creation of an opening in the body, excluding the ear, for the purpose of inserting jewelry or other decoration.\n(2) \"Consent of a minor's parent or legal guardian\" means the presence of a parent or legal guardian during the performance of tattooing or body piercing upon the minor after the parent or legal guardian has provided:\n(a) reasonable proof of personal identity and familial relationship; and\n(b) written permission signed by the parent or legal guardian authorizing the performance of tattooing or body piercing upon the minor.\n(3) \"Minor\" means a person younger than 18 years old who:\n(a) is not married; and\n(b) has not been declared emancipated by a court of law.\n(4) \"Scarification\" means the process in which a mark is cut into human skin tissue with the intent of leaving a permanent mark.\n(5) \"Tattoo\" means to fix an indelible mark or figure upon the body by inserting a pigment under the skin or by producing scars.","path":["Title 76 Criminal Offenses","Chapter 76-9 Offenses Against Public Order, Health, and Safety","Part 76-9-20 Unlawful Tattooing or Body Piercing of a Minor"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title76/Chapter9/76-9-S2001.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"7389a2dcc63cd3f1ff11724adf19d923b40283997646187b174c9fbe52b60bf8","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-76-9-1903","next":"us-ut/utah-code-76-9-2002"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
