{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-76-9-2004","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 76-9-2004","heading":"Unlawful scarification of a minor.","body":"(1) Terms defined in Sections 76-1-101.5 and 76-9-2001 apply to this section.\n(2) Except as provided in Subsection (4), an actor commits unlawful scarification of a minor if the actor performs or offers to perform scarification:\n(a) upon a minor; and\n(b) for remuneration or in the course of a business or profession.\n(3) A violation of Subsection (2) is a class B misdemeanor with a mandatory fine of not less than $1,000.\n(4) An actor is not guilty of violating Subsection (2) if the actor:\n(a) has no actual knowledge of the minor's age; and\n(b) reviews, photocopies, and retains the photocopy of an apparently valid driver license or other government-issued picture identification for the minor that expressly purports that the minor is 18 years old or older before the actor performs the scarification.","path":["Title 76 Criminal Offenses","Chapter 76-9 Offenses Against Public Order, Health, and Safety","Part 76-9-20 Unlawful Tattooing or Body Piercing of a Minor"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title76/Chapter9/76-9-S2004.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"be2871053262849ebd5382f103a0a81dba38497cb7273eb625ea96bc776dc457","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-76-9-2003","next":"us-ut/utah-code-76-11-101"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
