{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-77-11d-101","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 77-11d-101","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this chapter:\n(1) \"Interest holder\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 77-11a-101.\n(2)\n(a) \"Lost or mislaid property\":\n(i) means any property that comes into the possession of a peace officer or law enforcement agency:\n(A) that is not claimed by anyone who is identified as the owner of the property; or\n(B) for which no owner or interest holder can be found after a reasonable and diligent search;\n(ii) includes any property received by a peace officer or law enforcement agency from a person claiming to have found the property; and\n(iii) does not include property seized by a peace officer in accordance with Chapter 11a, Seizure of Property and Contraband.\n(b) \"Lost or mislaid property\" includes a firearm or other dangerous weapon received by a law enforcement agency at an airport under Subsection 76-11-218(7).\n(3) \"Owner\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 77-11a-101.\n(4) \"Public interest use\" means:\n(a) use by a governmental agency as determined by the agency's legislative body; or\n(b) donation to a nonprofit charity registered with the state.","path":["Title 77 Criminal Procedure","Chapter 77-11d Lost or Mislaid Property"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title77/Chapter11d/77-11d-S101.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"547bf7f2be05bfd440fb4107a0415a7b16a68ad8bb7657b7a7bfdd8ec27ce378","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-77-11c-403","next":"us-ut/utah-code-77-11d-102"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
